INKtober FAIL- well, sorta-

I truly wanted to post everyday. I didn't make it, though. What I did accomplish was re-invigorating my love for sketching, rebooting my creative center and dusting off some old ideas and breathing some life into them. So, for that, I am happy. Here's my final INKtober post- Not thrilled with the dudes head (imma finish it out more- the hair in particular.)but I dig the "flippin the bird" beast!

So, my kids elementary school approached me to design the School Mascot! It's been pretty fun. This is the rough I personally liked and hope they pick.

That shirt'll have a design on it... not sure what though.

A couple of months ago I came across a sketch on Paul Richards mighty fine blog. It was a quick Viking sketch by Gino Whitehall. Paul did a pretty sweet color pass on it. I decided to give it a go as well. I spent about 45 minutes to an hour on it. I stopped just as I was starting to enter the "OOOH, I need to tighten it up" mode. I found it on my desktop and decided to give it a show...

Today I had a "job" to do. My son's teacher is having a birthday so I was commissioned to do a caricature of him. They printed on 24 shirts for all the kids to wear as a surprise. Pretty fun. I did the Drawing in Pen and Ink and then brought it into PS for a little gray wash action. Here 'tis...

So, Jake Parker, whose work I admire immensely, does this thing called "Inktober". It's pretty cool. One solid month of one inked image a day. 31 images total. This year I am going to participate. Naturally I didn't post Day 1 ON Day 1 but here it is today.

Mine will probably be in my sketchbook but I assure you they are all Bic pen (my favorite pen in the world) and WhiteOut (my favorite... white). It's how I roll.

Grady is DONE!

Finally! Finally finished "Grady". Took waaaaaay to long BUT my commitment to finishing "old unfinished stuff that I still like" stuff stays strong. He became an AU football fan two nights ago at 4am. It was interesting to wake up and sit down to the addition of the football decor... MAN what the mind does when you are delirious...

Here's the original sketch (from 2 years or so ago)... It changed quite a bit.

So, I decided to try and "get into the habit" of finishing a bunch of half finished things I had lying around. This is the first one of HOPEFULLY many. My daughter and I came up with this idea a loooooong time ago and it sat around in various stages of completion. Now it's marked as finished. I like it.

I did this for the Caricaturama 3000 weekly contest. It's a pretty awesome FB group dedicated to Caricature art. As each day passes I am getting more and more fired up about that artistic avenue. SO last week the subject was Courtney Love. I did this about an hour and a half... I thought it turned out nicely. I didn't get a chance to enter it, however, as I am apparently unable to see the post photo button... >.>

Not my finest internet moment BUT I now know where it is.

This week it's Michael Moore. I loathe him so it should provide a nice image...

A little "please hire me" piece I did for Junction Point. Not sure if they ever even saw it. Either way, never got in the door with them beyond an interview. I respect and envy what they are doing. The talent in that house is AWEsome!

Plain old lined paper and a cheap bic pen... my favorite tools. I seem to not worry about "is it good" or "what am I going to draw" when I go WAAAY back to the basics.

Oh yeah, I do remove the blue lines in photohop before I get busy with it...
